WhatsApp Chat Widget for Your Website: 3 Ways and Rules
· 8 min read · Webinly team
A WhatsApp button on a website is the shortest path a visitor has to a human. Most of them are one line of code around a wa.me link: the same green circle on every page, at every hour, for every visitor, opening a chat that leaves no record anywhere but your phone. It works until the day you want to know who wrote, show it only on the pricing page, or hide it at 2 AM.
This page lays out the three ways to add WhatsApp chat to a site as of October 2026, what a plain link gives up, and how Webinly's chat button does the job, from its public pages: a free button on every plan, a smart button with rules for when, where and to whom it shows, a lead form, replies in an inbox, and an AI assistant until a person takes over. Prices were read on Webinly's pricing page on 25 October 2026.
How do you add WhatsApp chat to a website?
Three ways, as of October 2026: a wa.me link that opens a chat with your number, a floating button or widget, which is a script on the site and in most cases a styled wa.me link, or a widget that opens a lead form before the chat, which is the one of the three that leaves a record. Webinly gives you the second on every plan for free and the third as the smart chat button, $9 a month on Starter and included on Pro and Scale, on your own WhatsApp Business number.
The choice is about what you want to know afterwards. A link answers one question: can a visitor reach me? A button with rules answers three more: which page were they on, were you open, and who were they. The rest of this page takes the three shapes in turn, then the Webinly version with its plan and price. The WhatsApp page explains what Webinly stores from a conversation and how anyone stops the messages.
The three shapes, side by side
What each shape does as of October 2026, next to what Webinly's pricing page states for its button.
| What you need | A wa.me link | A plain floating button | Webinly smart chat button |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A link: wa.me, your number, optionally a prefilled text | A script on your site, usually a styled wa.me link | A button with rules on your own WhatsApp Business number: the plain button is free on every plan, the smart one $9 a month on Starter, included on Pro and Scale |
| Who sees it | Everyone, the same way | Everyone, the same way | Who you choose: on scroll or on exit, on chosen pages |
| Opening hours | None | Usually none: it is the link again | Yes, it shows inside the hours you set |
| A record of the lead | Captures nothing | Nothing, unless it opens a lead form first | A lead form before the chat; the conversation lands in the Webinly inbox |
| Who answers | You, in the chat it opens | You, in the chat it opens | Your team in the inbox, or the WhatsApp AI assistant: 1,500 answers a month for $39, a person can take over |
What a plain wa.me link loses
A wa.me link is wa.me followed by your number, with an optional prefilled text. As of October 2026 it opens a chat and does three things you may not want: it captures nothing, so a visitor who closes the chat without writing is gone without a trace; it shows the same for every visitor, so the person on your pricing page and the person on your careers page get the same door; and it has no rules, so there are no pages, no hours and no form.
As of October 2026 most third-party widgets are a wa.me link with a design on top, so they inherit the same limits. The missing hours are the quiet cost: the button is up at 2 AM, the visitor writes, and the first thing they learn about your business is a long silence. The missing record is the expensive one: when a chat is the only copy of a lead, the lead lives on one phone and in nobody's follow-up.
How Webinly's WhatsApp chat button works
Webinly is a webinar platform with its own CRM, and WhatsApp is one of its channels. The business connects its own WhatsApp Business number through Meta's own sign-up window, from the Integrations page. The account and the number stay owned by that business and are billed by Meta directly; Webinly is granted permission to send and receive on their behalf, and that permission can be withdrawn at any time. Replies come back into Webinly, so the business can answer the person who wrote.
The WhatsApp chat button for your website is included on every plan, Starter at $39 a month included. The smart chat button adds the rules: when, where and to whom it shows, on scroll or exit, on chosen pages, inside opening hours, with a lead form in front of the chat. It is $9 a month on Starter and included on Pro and Scale. The same connection carries WhatsApp reminders, an inbox and campaigns on every plan, so the number on your website is the number your webinar reminders go out from.
Webinly's WhatsApp page states what it keeps from a conversation: the phone number, the message text and any picture, document or voice note, not sold or shared, and deleted when the business disconnects the number or the person asks to be erased. Anyone can reply with a stop word, STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, إلغاء or إيقاف, and the messages stop immediately.
Put the button on your site, step by step
Five steps, kept to what Webinly's pages say the product does.
- 1Connect your WhatsApp Business number to Webinly through Meta's sign-up window, from the Integrations page. The number stays yours; Meta bills the conversations.
- 2Turn on the WhatsApp chat button for your website. It is included on every plan, and the chats it starts land in the Webinly inbox.
- 3Add the smart chat button rules, $9 a month on Starter and included on Pro and Scale: show it on scroll or on exit, only on the pages you choose, and only inside your opening hours.
- 4Switch on the lead form, so a visitor leaves their details before the chat opens and you keep a record even if they never write a second line.
- 5Decide who answers: your team in the Webinly inbox, or the WhatsApp AI assistant, 1,500 answers a month for $39, with a person taking over when needed. Then open your own site on a phone, inside and outside the hours, and send one test message.
Who answers the chat, and can an AI do it?
A button is only as good as the reply. In Webinly the conversation lands in the inbox and your team answers there, from the business's own number. For the hours nobody is at the desk, the WhatsApp AI assistant answers WhatsApp and website chats: 1,500 answers a month, $39 a month on any plan, and a person can take over. Test it with the questions your visitors actually ask before you rely on it.
There is no SMS anywhere in Webinly, and WhatsApp voice calls are on Pro and Scale if a chat needs to become a call. If the people who write become a list you message every month, the WhatsApp newsletter page covers consent, templates and stop words.
What a WhatsApp widget costs, at your size
The price is per account, not per seat. Starter at $39 a month is for one person and runs one automated webinar at a time; Pro at $159 includes 3 people and live broadcasting, Scale at $349 includes 10, and extra teammates are $19 a month on those two. The plain WhatsApp chat button is free on all three. The smart chat button is $9 a month on Starter and included on Pro and Scale. The WhatsApp AI assistant is $39 a month on any plan for 1,500 answers. Meta bills the conversations on your own number, separately from Webinly.
A year up front is $390, $1,590 or $3,490, around two months free. Every webinar registrant is already a contact record with scores in the webinar CRM, and the inbox sits in the same account. The full table is on the pricing page.
Frequently asked
How do I add a WhatsApp button to my website?
Three ways as of October 2026: a wa.me link with your number, a floating button, usually a styled link, or a widget with a lead form first. In Webinly, connect your WhatsApp Business number through Meta's sign-up window, turn on the free chat button and set its rules with the smart button.
Is a WhatsApp widget free?
A wa.me link needs no tool at all. Webinly's plain WhatsApp chat button is free on every plan. The smart chat button, with its rules and lead form, is $9 a month on Starter and included on Pro at $159 and Scale at $349. Meta bills the conversations on your own number.
Can the widget show only on some pages or during opening hours?
A plain wa.me link cannot: as of October 2026 it has no rules, no pages and no hours. Webinly's smart chat button chooses when and where it shows: on scroll or exit, on chosen pages, inside your opening hours, and to whom, with a lead form. $9 a month on Starter, included on Pro and Scale.
Does a WhatsApp chat widget capture the lead?
A link captures nothing. As of October 2026 the widget that opens a lead form before the chat is the one leaving a record. Webinly's smart chat button carries that lead form, and the conversation lands in the Webinly inbox, so you can answer the person who wrote from your own number.
Can an AI answer the WhatsApp chats from my website?
Yes. The WhatsApp AI assistant answers WhatsApp and website chats, 1,500 answers a month, for $39 a month on any Webinly plan, and a person can take over. There is no SMS in Webinly; WhatsApp voice calls are on Pro and Scale when a chat should become a call.
Does the WhatsApp widget work with Arabic?
Webinly's public pages and emails run right to left, and the stop words are recognised in Arabic as well as English: a reply of إلغاء or إيقاف stops the messages immediately, like STOP and UNSUBSCRIBE. In the inbox you answer in whatever language the visitor wrote.
