WhatsApp Newsletter in 2026: Send One From Your Own Number
· 8 min read · Webinly team
A WhatsApp newsletter sounds simple: one message a month to the people who said yes. Then the questions start. A Channel, where nobody can reply and you never see a number? A broadcast list, which stops at 256 contacts and reaches only people who saved you? Or the WhatsApp Business Platform, with an approved template and a bill from Meta?
This page answers from what WhatsApp's own app does as of October 2026 and from Webinly's public pages: the three shapes and what each gives up, who has to opt in and how anyone stops, a sending rhythm, how Webinly sends campaigns and scheduled group and channel posts from your own number, and what the email version costs.
Can you send a newsletter on WhatsApp?
Yes, in one of three shapes as of October 2026: a WhatsApp Channel that followers read but cannot answer, a broadcast list of up to 256 saved contacts sent from your phone, or template messages through the WhatsApp Business Platform, which is how Webinly sends from your own WhatsApp Business number. The first two live inside the app and each gives something up: replies, numbers or reach. The third needs consent, a template Meta approved and Meta's bill, and gives you an inbox for the replies.
The word newsletter hides a decision about the relationship: a Channel is a notice board, a broadcast list is a stack of one-to-one chats, and a campaign from the Business Platform is a message the person agreed to receive, from a number they can answer and silence with one word. Webinly's WhatsApp page explains what is stored and how anyone stops the messages.
The three shapes, and what each one gives up
What WhatsApp's own app does with each shape as of October 2026, next to what Webinly's pages state. Prices were read on Webinly's pricing page on 25 October 2026.
Two walls matter most. As of October 2026 a broadcast list never tells you who was skipped for not saving your number, and past 256 people you make more lists by hand on the phone, since a list cannot be created on WhatsApp Web or desktop. A Channel cannot carry a conversation: the reader with a question has nowhere to type. Neither shape knows who registered for your last webinar, so every edition goes to everyone in the same words; the WhatsApp broadcast message page covers the 256 limit in detail.
| What you need | A Channel | A broadcast list | Webinly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who gets it | Followers; you never see their numbers | Up to 256 contacts per list, only those who saved your number | Contacts who opted in, with a phone number and its country code |
| Can they reply | Not in the channel | Yes, as one-to-one chats on your phone | Yes, into the Webinly inbox |
| Do you know who they are | No | Yes, saved contacts | Yes, a contact record with the number they gave |
| Who read or clicked | You cannot tell | No open or click figures | Group and channel posts: who read, clicked and bought |
| Scheduling | No scheduler for everyone in the app, as of October 2026 | None, and no template | Scheduled group and channel posts; automations with quiet hours |
Who has to opt in, and how anyone stops
A newsletter is promotional, so on the Business Platform it goes only to people who said yes. In Webinly a WhatsApp step needs four things: WhatsApp connected to your account, a template Meta has approved, a phone number with its country code on the contact, and, for anything promotional, that contact's opt-in to marketing messages. Missing one, the step is skipped and logged.
Collect the yes where people already type: a consent checkbox on the registration page, a form or a booking page. Webinly keeps the exact wording the person agreed to, and when, on their contact record. Ask for phone numbers with the country code everywhere, so one number is always written one way.
Anyone who replies to a WhatsApp message from a Webinly customer with a stop word stops the messages immediately: STOP and UNSUBSCRIBE are recognised, and so are the Arabic إلغاء and إيقاف. Webinly has no SMS: reminders go by email, and by WhatsApp once a sender is connected.
How often should a WhatsApp newsletter go out?
WhatsApp's app sets no rhythm and Webinly's pages name no number for WhatsApp, so treat the frequency as a promise you keep. Monthly works: one message, one idea, one link, to people who opted in. WhatsApp delivers only pre-approved templates, so the wording is fixed before the send; fill-ins such as the first name carry what changes.
Two guardrails in Webinly's automations keep a WhatsApp step from piling onto the webinar messages the same person already gets: quiet hours hold anything due between 9 PM and 8 AM until the window opens, and a frequency cap skips a message once a person has had the number you set in the window, counting everything your automations and WhatsApp messages sent them. Unsubscribes, bounces and complaints are respected.
How Webinly sends a WhatsApp newsletter from your own number
Webinly is a webinar platform with its own CRM, and WhatsApp is one of its channels. A business connects its own WhatsApp Business number through Meta's own sign-up window, from the Integrations page. The account and the number stay the business's and are billed by Meta directly; Webinly is granted permission to send and receive on their behalf, which the business can withdraw at any time.
On every plan, including Starter at $39 a month, that connection carries WhatsApp reminders, an inbox and campaigns. The webinar messages are already on a clock: confirmation, reminders before the start, the join link when it goes live, the recording afterwards, a follow-up for no-shows. A campaign is the newsletter on top: a Meta-approved template to the contacts you choose, with replies coming back into Webinly so you can answer the person who wrote.
For a community rather than a list, the groups and channels add-on posts for you: scheduled posts, quiz polls, an AI post writer and who read, clicked and bought, $29 a month on Starter and included on Pro and Scale. A follow-up automation can also send a WhatsApp step that waits and branches on what the person did.
Your first monthly WhatsApp newsletter, step by step
Six steps, kept to what Webinly's pages state.
- 1Connect your WhatsApp Business number to Webinly through Meta's sign-up window, from the Integrations page. The number stays yours; Meta bills the conversations.
- 2Collect consent and numbers: a phone field with its country code and a consent checkbox on your registration page or form. People with no phone number get nothing.
- 3Write the newsletter as a message template and get it approved by Meta before the send: WhatsApp delivers only pre-approved wording, with fill-ins such as the first name.
- 4Send the campaign to the contacts who opted in. Replies land in the inbox; answer them there.
- 5Running a group or a channel? Schedule the same post there, let the AI post writer draft it, and read who read, clicked and bought afterwards.
- 6Offer the email version: Email marketing has a newsletter template in English and Arabic, and broadcast plans start at $29 for 10,000 emails.
Who is a WhatsApp newsletter for, and who should keep email?
It is for a list that already talks to you on WhatsApp: webinar registrants who gave a number, students, a community. It is a poor fit for a cold list, because nothing promotional goes out until the person opts in and a template is approved, and for a long read, because a template is a fixed shape.
Email keeps its place for the people who prefer it, in the same Webinly account. Email marketing opens on finished templates, one per job, in English and separately in Arabic, and a newsletter is one of them. Sending to a list is an add-on from $29 for 10,000 emails; the email marketing page also lists what it does not do, such as open or click counts on broadcasts.
What a WhatsApp newsletter costs in Webinly
The price is per account, not per seat, and co-hosts are included. Starter is $39 a month and runs one automated webinar at a time; live broadcasting starts on Pro at $159, and Scale is $349. WhatsApp reminders, the inbox and campaigns are included on all three; groups and channels are $29 a month on Starter and included above it. The WhatsApp AI assistant, for WhatsApp and website chats, is $39 a month on any plan for 1,500 answers, and a person can take over. Meta bills the conversations separately.
A year up front is $390, $1,590 or $3,490, around two months free. Every number here is on the pricing page.
Frequently asked
Can I send a newsletter on WhatsApp?
Yes, in three shapes as of October 2026: a one-way Channel, a broadcast list of up to 256 saved contacts, or template messages through the WhatsApp Business Platform. Webinly uses the third, from your WhatsApp Business number, with Meta-approved templates, opt-in and an inbox for replies.
Do people need to opt in to a WhatsApp newsletter?
For anything promotional, yes. Webinly sends a marketing WhatsApp message only to a contact who opted in and has a phone number with its country code, once a template Meta approved exists; otherwise the step is skipped and logged. Anyone can stop by replying STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, إلغاء or إيقاف.
What is the difference between a WhatsApp channel and a broadcast list?
As of October 2026 a Channel is one-way: followers get your posts, cannot reply in the channel, and you never see their numbers. A broadcast list sends one message as separate one-to-one chats to up to 256 contacts who saved your number, and replies come back to your phone.
Can I schedule a WhatsApp newsletter?
As of October 2026 WhatsApp's own app has no scheduler available to everyone; Android beta testers are trying one. In Webinly, group and channel posts are scheduled (Pro and Scale, or $29 a month on Starter), and an automation can wait days before a WhatsApp step, with quiet hours.
Can I see who read my WhatsApp newsletter?
Not from the app as of October 2026: a broadcast list gives no open or click figures, and a Channel never shows you who follows it. In Webinly, group and channel posts report who read, clicked and bought, and each automation shows delivery, opens and clicks per step.
