How to Create a WhatsApp Group Poll in 2026 (+ Quiz Polls)

· 10 min read · Webinly team

A poll is the fastest way to get a quiet WhatsApp group to answer you: which date suits, which topic to cover, who is coming. The native poll does that job in about ten seconds. It also stops there: no right answer, no score, nothing happens after the vote, and you cannot set it to go out tomorrow at nine.

This page gives the exact steps and limits of a WhatsApp poll as of October 2026, the three polls worth running before a webinar, and what Webinly's WhatsApp groups and channels add on top: scheduled posts, quiz polls, an AI post writer, and who read, clicked and bought, with the plan each one sits on.

How to create a poll in a WhatsApp group

As of October 2026: open the group, tap the attach icon (the paperclip on Android, the plus on iPhone), choose Poll, type the question, add 2 to 12 options and send. Allow multiple answers is on by default, so switch it off before sending if you want one vote per person, because the settings lock once the poll is out. Results show in the chat, and members can see who voted for what.

That is the whole feature, and for a quick question it is enough. As of October 2026 the question is limited to about 255 characters and each option to about 100, which fits a weekday, a time and a city, or a topic in a few words.

What the poll cannot do is why this page goes on. If you run webinars and the group is where your audience lives, the vote is only the first half of the job. The second half, the reminder, the join link, the person who said yes and never came, is what Webinly's WhatsApp features are for.

What can a WhatsApp poll not do?

Five limits matter to anyone who uses a group to fill a webinar, all as of October 2026.

  • No right answer and no score. A poll counts votes; it cannot mark one option as correct or add up points, so a quiz is only a quiz in your head.
  • Nothing happens after the vote. A poll cannot start anything: no follow-up message, no link, no booking. The people who voted for Thursday still get the Thursday link by hand.
  • No scheduling. WhatsApp has no scheduling feature available to everyone; October 2026 reports describe an Android beta scheduler and an earlier iPhone test, with no public release date. A poll goes out when you press send.
  • Settings lock on send. Multiple answers on or off is decided before sending and cannot be changed afterwards; the fix is a new poll.
  • Everyone sees who voted for what. Fine for picking a date, less fine for a question people would rather answer privately.
  • A WhatsApp Channel does not change the picture: as of October 2026 a channel is one-way, followers cannot reply in it and you do not see their numbers, so it is a place to announce, not to ask. If scheduling is the part you need, how to schedule a WhatsApp message covers the workarounds and what each costs you.

Three polls worth running before a webinar

A group that already follows you is the cheapest audience a webinar will ever have. Three polls, in order, turn that group into a room.

  • Pick the date. Two or three options, each written as weekday, date, time and city, with multiple answers on so people can tick every slot that works. The option with the most ticks is your session.
  • Pick the topic. Three or four questions your audience keeps asking, one option each. The winner is the title; the runners-up are the first three minutes of the talk and your FAQ.
  • Warm the room. The day before, one quiz-shaped question about the topic, with the answer coming in the webinar. As of October 2026 a native poll cannot score it, so you announce the right answer live in the first five minutes, which is also where a live webinar's own first poll belongs.
  • Inside the room the poll continues. In a Webinly live webinar you write the polls in the wizard and throw each one into the room with one click; it closes when its time runs out. On an automated webinar the poll sits on the timeline and fires at the same minute for every viewer. Either way the vote lands on the person's contact record and counts 8 engagement points, so a week later you can still see who took part. The report does not keep poll totals; the vote lives on each person's record.

Quiz polls, scheduled posts and who read: WhatsApp groups in Webinly

Webinly's WhatsApp groups and channels feature lists four things on the pricing page: scheduled posts, quiz polls, an AI post writer, and who read, clicked and bought. On Starter it is a $29 a month add-on; on Pro and Scale it is included. Every price on this page is as the pricing page showed it, checked against the product on 24 October 2026.

The rest of the WhatsApp side comes with every plan. Reminders, an inbox and campaigns go out on the business's own WhatsApp Business number, connected through Meta's own sign-up window. WhatsApp only delivers templates Meta approved in advance, with fill-ins such as the first name or the watch link; Meta bills the conversations; and anyone can stop the messages with a stop word in English or Arabic (STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, إلغاء, إيقاف). There is no SMS anywhere in the product.

The table puts the native poll next to the group feature. The Webinly column says only what the pricing page says.

What happens to the people who voted?

A vote tells you who is interested. In WhatsApp's own app, as of October 2026, that information stays in the chat and nothing follows from it. In Webinly the webinar messages are already on a clock, which is what turns a yes into a seat: a confirmation when someone registers, reminders before the start, the link to join when it goes live, the recording afterwards, and a follow-up for the people who registered and did not attend. Replies come back into Webinly, so you can answer the person who wrote.

The one that matters most is the missed start. Anyone who registered with a phone number but never opened the room gets one WhatsApp message with their own watch link 7 minutes after their session starts, a delay you can set per webinar from 2 to 180 minutes. People who left no phone number get nothing, so ask for the number on the registration form.

After the session, follow-up automations carry on by email and WhatsApp: a journey starts when someone misses the webinar or reaches the offer, waits as long as you say, branches on what they did since, and quiet hours hold any message due between 9 PM and 8 AM. A WhatsApp step needs the number connected, an approved template, a phone number with its country code and, for anything promotional, the person's opt-in; when one is missing the step is skipped and logged.

How to run a quiz poll before a webinar

Only steps Webinly's pages describe; where they are silent, the step stays general.

  1. 1Connect your WhatsApp Business number from the Integrations page, in Meta's own sign-up window. The account and the number stay yours, Meta bills the messages, and you can withdraw the permission at any time.
  2. 2Add WhatsApp groups and channels: a $29 a month add-on on Starter, already included on Pro and Scale.
  3. 3Put the posts on a schedule: the announcement with the registration link a few days before, the quiz the day before. If you are stuck for words, let the AI post writer draft the announcement, then edit it.
  4. 4Write the quiz poll so the answer comes in the webinar. The reveal is a reason to turn up, and the first five minutes of the session are where you give it.
  5. 5Read who read, clicked and bought after each post, and set it against the webinar's own numbers: registrations, show-up rate and sales sit on its Analytics tab.
  6. 6Let the clock do the rest. Once the number is connected, the confirmation, the reminders, the watch link 7 minutes after a missed start, the recording and the no-show follow-up go out on their own.

What does a WhatsApp group poll cost in Webinly?

The native poll is free, and for a group that only needs a date picked it stays the right tool. The Webinly numbers, from the pricing page: Starter is $39 a month or $390 a year, one automated or evergreen webinar at a time, unlimited registrants, WhatsApp reminders, inbox and campaigns included; groups and channels cost $29 a month on top. Starter cannot go live: live broadcasting starts on Pro.

Pro is $159 a month or $1,590 a year and includes groups and channels, the smart chat button, WhatsApp voice calls, live broadcasting with rooms of 300 and your own domain. Scale is $349 a month or $3,490 a year, with rooms of 1,000 and 10 co-hosts. On any plan the WhatsApp AI assistant is $39 a month for 1,500 answers, and a person can take over. The price is per account, not per seat, co-hosts included, and Meta bills the WhatsApp conversations separately.

Frequently asked

How do I make a poll in a WhatsApp group?

As of October 2026: open the group, tap the attach icon (the paperclip on Android, the plus on iPhone), choose Poll, type your question, add between 2 and 12 options, decide whether to allow multiple answers, and send. The poll appears in the chat and results show there as members vote.

How many options can a WhatsApp poll have?

Between 2 and 12, as of October 2026. The question is limited to about 255 characters and each option to about 100, so write options short: a weekday, a time and a city, or a topic in three or four words. If you need more than 12 choices, split the question into two polls.

Can people vote more than once?

They can pick more than one option if Allow multiple answers is on, and as of October 2026 it is on by default. Switch it off before you send when you want one vote per person, for example when picking a single date; the setting locks once the poll is sent and cannot be changed.

Can I see who voted?

Yes, and so can everyone else in the group: as of October 2026, results show in the chat and members can see who voted for what. In Webinly's WhatsApp groups and channels feature, you also see who read, clicked and bought after a post, which is the part a vote count cannot tell you.

Can a poll have a right answer?

Not in WhatsApp's own app: as of October 2026 a poll counts votes and cannot mark an option as correct or score it. Webinly's WhatsApp groups and channels feature includes quiz polls, the poll shape for a question that has an answer; it is $29 a month on Starter and included on Pro and Scale.

Can I schedule a poll?

Not in the app, as of October 2026: WhatsApp has no scheduling feature available to everyone, only an Android beta and an earlier iPhone test with no release date. Webinly's groups and channels feature schedules posts, and the webinar's own WhatsApp messages (confirmation, reminders, join link, recording, no-show follow-up) are already on a clock.

Post the quiz, schedule the announcement and let the reminders and the missed-start link go out on their own from your own WhatsApp number: your first plan is $1 today and the plan price 7 days later, cancel any time.
